It should be noted that this is not the original Columns. Columns
was originally created in 1989 by Jay Geertsen at hp for the X Window
system.
Nathan Meyers, another hp employee, ported it to DOS in the same
year,
Chris Christensen to Macintosh,
John Rotenstein to Windows, and
P. C. M. van der Arend created an Atari ST version. However, it was
the Sega version (for arcade and all the Sega consoles of the time) that
made the concept widely known.
Still in the same year, Sega created Colums II, which had the same gameplay, but a greater variety of graphics, as an arcade machine only.
